The Burn and Wound Care Clinic at The University of Kansas Hospital provides acute care for complex burns and wounds that are difficult to treat and slow to heal.
Our experienced, multidisciplinary team includes surgeons, plastic surgeons, dermatologists, nurses, counselors and social workers. They will work closely with you and your family in a friendly, supportive environment.
Burn Care
We provide outpatient care for all types of burn injuries, including thermal, electrical and chemical. Your care may also include pain management, rehabilitation and counseling to address the physical and mental impact of burn injuries.
Wound Care
Wounds that are difficult and slow to heal often result from causes that include:
- Diabetes (frequent foot injuries)
- Surgery
- Trauma
We use advanced wound-care treatments that may not be readily available elsewhere, such as silver-based bandages and silver ion-based anti-bacterial dressings.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
State-of-the-art, individual hyperbaric oxygen chambers are an integral part of our Burn and Wound Care Clinic. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy uses pressurized, pure oxygen to increase the amount of oxygen in your bloodstream and enhance healing.
Our hyperbaric units provide effective treatment for a wide variety of wounds and conditions including:
- Carbon monoxide poisoning
- Decompression sickness ("the bends" from scuba diving)
- Diabetic foot ulcers
- Gangrene
- Peripheral vascular disease
- Spider bites
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is available both for routine care and emergencytreatments.
