University HealthSystem Consortium, an alliance of 103 academic medical centers and 219 of their affiliated hospitals, ranked The University of Kansas Hospital second in quality among the nation's most prestigious academic medical centers. UHC presented our hospital with the 2009 Quality Leadership Award, recognizing top performance in delivering high-quality, safe, effective, efficient and equitable care.

UHC has given this award annually since 2005 to the top five academic medical centers demonstrating excellence in quality, as measured by its annual Quality and Accountability Study. In 2005, we ranked 33rd in this study. We rose to number five just two years later.
