2009 ANNUAL REPORT

SUPPORT FOR KU MEDICAL CENTER

KU Medical Center's White Coat Ceremony welcomes each new class of medical students.

At a time when the University of Kansas Medical Center and other state entities are experiencing budget cutbacks, The University of Kansas Hospital was able to increase its support for the medical center's faculty and programs. Now in the second year of our groundbreaking affiliation agreement with the medical center, we provided $55.2 million in fiscal 2009 to fund research, education, new residents, faculty salaries and programs. This more than doubled the $27.1 million we provided in 2007.

Among the many benefits to Kansans, this ongoing support means more new physicians can receive training, more top physicians can be recruited to the area, and more research can be conducted to discover lifesaving treatments. We also provide the medical center with unrestricted funds it can target to critical areas of need.
